Ear avulsions

Ear avulsions

The ear is particularly vulnerable to avulsion injuries due to its exposed position on the side of the head.[1] The most common cause of these injuries is human bites, followed by falls, motor vehicle accidents, and dog bites.[1]

#1 is human bites? Holy moly!

2007 Groundhog Day tornado outbreak

The 2007 Groundhog Day tornado outbreak was a localized, but devastating tornado event that took place in central Florida early on February 2, 2007. Early morning temperatures had risen well above average for the season, which, combined with increased moisture and a powerful jet stream, created enough instability and wind shear for thunderstorms to rotate and spawn tornadoes. Due to the conditions, a long-tracked supercell formed and produced three tornadoes during a one hour and 17 minute time frame. The supercell resulted in a 70 mile (110 km) trail of damage.

The petroleum fly

The petroleum fly, Helaeomyia petrolei, is a species of fly from California, USA. The larvae feed on dead insects that become trapped in naturally occurring petroleum pools, making this the only known insect species that develops in crude oil, which is normally highly toxic to insects.[1]

Great.....what's next?

Many of the newest solar panels are manufactured with a gas that is 17,000 times more potent than carbon dioxide in contributing to global warming.

They can fly the same day they hatch!

Megapode chicks do not have an egg tooth: they use their powerful claws to break out of the egg, and then tunnel their way up to the surface of the mound, lying on their backs and scratching at the sand and vegetable matter. Similar to other precocious birds, they hatch fully feathered and active, already able to fly and live independently from their parents.

check out how small a potentially catastrophic flaw on the space shuttle can be!

Click picture for monster close up.

The screwdriver is pointing at them. ( I was wondering what the hell a screwdriver was doing within a 10 foot radius of a liquid-hydrogen fuel valve!)

"Preparation and inspections need to be meticulous. Here is a close up view of a valve removed from Atlantis' external tank inside the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. Technicians removed the valve after small dings (center, near tip of tool) were found on the sealing surface of the quick disconnect system that handles liquid-hydrogen fuel for the shuttle's three main engines. from "what I learned today"

The “What are the Chances My Marriage Will Last?” Equation: Garth Sundem, author of GeekLogic created his own equations to determine 1. What are the Chances My Marriage Will Last? 2. Should We Get Married? and 3. How Many Kids Should we Have?

The “What are the Chances my Marriage Will Last? is based on an 11,000 person study by the CDC that explored factors that help and hurt a marriage’s chances of working.

Here’s the equation:

where
A= Her age at time of marriage
E=Current combined years of post-high-school education
K= Number of kids from this marriage
R= How religious is the couple (1-10 with 10 being “the Pope”)
D= Combined number of divorces of couple’s parents
P= Combined previous marriages
T= Years at which you are computing the chances
H.E.A. = % chance of Happily Ever After

But don’t worry about calculating it out yourself. Over at Political Calculations, you can type in your personal data and it spits out the probability you and your partner will still be married at a given year of anniversary.
